Mint Colt Viper and Replacement

Good Morning, I'm new to Gunbroker, and to the selling of firearms, so I would like your advice. I am not a collector and therefore have no need to hold on to a collector's gun. I have a Colt Viper in excellent condition, as a matter of fact, I don't think its ever been fired. Unfortunately, I do not have the box nor the paperwork. What do you recommend as the best way to sell such an item? Also, can you recommend another handgun for me to purchase when I unload the Colt. What I want is a smallish handgun (maybe .380 or 9mm) that I can utilize. I'm looking to spend no more than $400-$500 on the new pistol. What do you think about the Walther PPS? Thank you in advance!

  According to the Blue Book, which in not the absolute authority, your Viper could be worth as much as $700.00, depending on the condition. The condition, we cannot, assume, by description, but rather, we will need some good clear photographs.
  
  However, the Walther PPS is a fine choice, as would be the Ruger LC9.
  
  You will not get a gunshop, or any place like Gander Mountain, Cabela's, or Bass Pro, to offer you little more than half of the retail value for your Viper. The best thing to do, to realize the full value of it, is to list it on the auction side.

  You really can't go by the blue book when it comes to collectable Colts. You need to do some research over on the auction side and see what they have been selling for. Not what they are being listed for, what they are SELLING for. If you are a registered member of the auction side, you can do a search for COMPLETED auctions using the parameters of COLT VIPER. If you list it with a penny start, no reserve, and run it for 10 days, you will see substantial interest and I think you will be happy with what it sells for. Good, clear photos of every angle of the revolver will be necessary, including under the grips!

  CC.... Again, welcome to the forums. You will probably find that Colt Vipers are going for around $1000 to $1500 or more depending on condition. Colt did not make very many of them, hence the high prices.
  
  I saw an unfired Viper in the original box at the Phoenix Gun Show a few months ago with a $3200 price tag on it. I doubt that one will ever sell, but you never know.
