Cannon legal question
...This is a muzzle loader with a 2 5/8" bore that I've had for 25-30 years.

...Now I've had this bored through barrel for a few years. I would like to make a breech loader, I think that something using fixed ammunition would be a Destructive Device. Am I correct? Since it's bored through, I haven't come up with a good idea for a breech block. Interrupted threads are too hard to machine, so I was thinking more like a sliding block. If it's not legal, it's a moot point. Any ideas?

Muzzleloaders are fine but once you load from the breech you just built a Destructive Device and owe Uncle Sam $200 in taxes and it must be registered. There is an exception for certain breech loading cannon firing fixed ammunition which were built prior to 1899 but replicas of these cannons are not exempted. 0 -
Perhaps you still use that barrel and you could make it a muzzle loader by threading in a breech plug like many of our ML rifles have. Remove it only for cleaning. [:)] 0
