savage 340 serial # location
I have Savage 340 receiver or maybe its a Stevens 322 with no number or Mfr.name. it has been polished but not ground on as far as I can tell. it came in a box of parts along with two bolts for 22 Hornet. did Savage or Stevens not put numbers on their early guns.does any body have one and can tell me where a number should be. Thanks

Two of my older 340's do not have serial numbers on them. Another, a newer 340 in .225 Win caliber has a serial number on the right side of the receiver near the gas escape hole, close to where the barrel screws in. Firearms made before 1968 weren't required by federal law to have serial numbers. On 340's, the manufacturer's name and other information usually appeared on the barrel. 0 -
Thanks I'm pretty sure its an early model. one of the bolts is a butter knife style and I'm looking into building a single shot out of it if I can find a suitable replacement barrel 0
