lead melting burner pot
you guys have been awesome with all other problems, can ya help me out on this?...A little off topic maybe but its for melting lead!...I bought this burner but CANNOT figure out what I'm supposed to hook it up to!...some sort of propane, but what? small inner hole is threaded but larger 3" hole has a rubber gasket and is also th

You have the top from a plumbers lead pot. Years ago, plumbers sealed cast iron pipe joints with lead. The cast iron pot for yours should hold 40 lbs of lead. It takes a special tank valve on the propane bottle to make it usable. You should go to a local plumbing shop and see if you can get the bottle and valve. I use one all the time. It is nice to mix a 40# batch of lead that will be consistent throught the pour. 0 -
I know you have the burner but if I may let me make a suggestion. get some scrap bricks a small vacuum cleaner with one end a vacuum and the other blowing a bag of charcoal and a cast iron dutch oven from a good will store. Build a small box out of the brick with top opening small enough to support the cast Iron pot full of lead about tall enough to hold 2/3 - one bag of Charcoal. leave 1/2 brick out on one side at the bottom. Fill pot 2/3 full with what you want to melt pore in charcoal lite it then turn on the blowing end with a hose to metal pipe section through hole in the brick side the pot will melt lead in very little time get a few muffin tins from good will and pour off lead into muffin tin . BE CAREFUL when pouring this stuff will want to slosh and it will burn you.NEVER drop damp or wet lead into melt . It will FLASH STEAM and BLOW melted lead all over you BE CAREFUL and wear EYE protection. 0 -

...I bought a very similar pot at an estate auction this summer.
It screws to the top of the old style 20# propane tank. I don't
see a way to make it work with the newer POF valve tanks, except
rigging some farmer-type plumbing. I haven't tried yet, but I'm
sure it can be done.0 -
You need to take the burner to a local propane supply company and let them fix you up. 0 -
Modern valves will not work. There is no pressure regulator on the original and the valve regulates the amount of gas that is burned. These valves were in the catalog a few years ago, but they may not meet current Federal regulations. I have a heck of a time getting mine filled since most attendants at fill stations have never seen one of these. I have to convince them it is an industrial application bottle and not a home use bottle. If you need pictures of the complete set-up, let me know. 0
