Ruger Vaquero phony case hardening
Just when I thought I had found the best model of cowboy gun for me,I find out what appears to be case hardening on the Ruger Vaqueros is some kind of applied film.
Can someone tell me if Uberti actually case harden thier guns or do they also use some kind of crappy painted on application?Thank you.

Many different makers of Colt SAA clones use a applied finish to look like Case Color . Some like Uberti even sell different models that look close to the same one is real case and the other is not [:(!][:(]. There was a company that did make a clone in Hartford maybe even called Hartford arm that made a Clone that is First rate IMHO every bit as good as a COLT but again given a Colt and any other make what will the value of each be 10 years from now.[?][?] 0 -

If you want a TRUE case color there are several firms that will case color a gun for you. 0 -

Yes. Both are chemically "case hardened". Colt and US Firearms use real case hardening on their SAA's (the exception being the Colt "Cowboy").0
