Old Winchester parts
Anybody out there know how I could find parts for a 1873 Winchester. I need a dust cover, a rear sight slide. THIS RIFLE WAS BUILT IN 1881 It has a 20 barrel. The tube is 14 inches.

There are quite a bit of people who make parts for your 1873. I have found all kinds of parts for mine. Mine was made in 1885.

If your 1873 is an original RIFLE with a 20" barrel and short magazine, it's a rare gun. Of course, if it's been chopped down, that's a different story. Sorry, I got off topic. Since original dust covers are almost impossible to find (at least at a reasonable price), a lot of people buy these reproduction ones. I haven't bought one in years but some of the repros are not accurate copies. Some are too thick and don't have the serrations right. You can spot them a mile away. Check the different sources and try to get one that looks right. Then, when finished to match the gun, it will look good. Just my two cents. 0 -
Your "rifle" if made in 1881 is probably a late second model, SN below 90,000. Does it have a saddle ring, a forearm barrel band (and not the forearm cap), if so, it is a carbine not a rifle, and 20" barrel is correct. If it is a rifle (no saddle ring or forearm cap) then it is rare for a rifle, or the barrel has been cut. You should get the Cody Museum Winchester Shipping record for it, to know what you have. A good used dust cover for the model 2 or 3 will cost $100 to 150 on GB or eBay. I have gotten new ones from chasjones, listed above, complete with stop & stop screw for about $55. I prefer his over some of the others. The rear slides cost from $6 to $12.50 new, or more used. If you buy one on auction, make sure it is a real used old one, not one to make it look old. This sounds like the "dug up" rifle with broken wood & matte finish on the metal that was recently sold on GB. If so, I'm sure repro parts will meet the OP's needs.

It's not a GB rifle. No broken wood and no matte finish. It's in great shape and I'm going to contact Cody Museum for more info. 0
