Colt Python counter clockwise barrel

After taking a closer look at my recently acquired Python,I noticed the barrel is installed slightly counter clockwise from dead center when looking at it from the front.

When looking down the muzzle end it is quite obvious that the front sight is to the left of top center and the rod shroud is to the right.

The nickel finish is mint as is the rest of the gun so I dont think it has been monkeyed with.My guess is it happened at the factory.

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem with thier gun and whether or not it can be fixed without harming the gun.

It shoots great,and I was thrilled to get it.But this barrel thing really bugs me

    You still haven't posted the photos we asked you for.

    So, if you say the barrel is not installed to TDC, we'll have to take your word for it. If you say the finish is original, we'll have to take your word for it, too.

    The only thing that I am sure of, is that a Python did not come from Colt with a misaligned barrel.

    If it bothers you now, it will always bother you. Maybe now is the time to take it to a gunsmith & get a professional opinion, while you can still get your money back (or get a price adjustment).

    At this time I cannot send pics.

    Came with matching Ser# box.So i just assumed it to be all original.

    Why do you say it cannot be a factory error?I know I have not seen any pics.of several I have viewed with this problem.I dont know how the barrels were installed at the factory.

    If there is any model as near and dear to Colt's heart as the SAA, it would be the Python. They were for the most part, all hand assembled, by the best they had.

    Im so disappointed.After accepting that a Python was out of reach for me financial,this one fell in my lap while discussing antique Lionel model trains with an older gentleman.
    He only wanted what he said he had paid for it new in 1981($700).
    It seemed too good to be true.Apparently is was.Live and learn I guess.
    Due to its otherwise pristine cond.my local gunsmith feels it had to leave the factory as it is.
    Regardless of how it happened I think the out of wack barrel takes away most of its value and it is no longer of any interest to me as a collector piece.
    At this point Im hoping to trade it at the local gun store for the new Ruger SR40c and old model Ruger Vaquero I saw there the other day along with a little sorely needed cash.

    RCrosby...I agree,a factory error however unlikely is the only thing that makes any sense to me.

    I would still appreciate hearing from anyone who has seen this problem before on a Python.
    So far it looks as though I may have the lone lemon.

    Have you contacted Colt? A friend bought a 30 Carbine Ruger that had a crooked front sight. He sent it in and they sent it back with a letter saying what do mean the front is crooked. When it came back it was no longer crooked. Worth a stamp to ask.

    edit I would think they will fix anything wrong. All the Python I have shot were slick enough and didn't require any extra work.

    If the barrel is misaligned from the factory, which apparently happened, I think Colt will fix it at no cost. Call Colt and get instructions on how to return the gun for repair.

    I bought a like new Smith model 27-2, box, papers and all. The old guy that had said it didn't shoot right, after checking it out I found the forcing cone had not been cut in the barrel. Came from the factory that way, at the height of Smith's quality curve, supposedly. Goes to show you anything is possible.

    Talked with Colt today.
    Python is going there for barrel re-alignment.
    Not sure of what the cost(if any)will be.
    The original owner said he fired about 200 rounds from 1982-90 only cleaning the barrel and cylinders after each of about 10 outings.
    I am looking for advice as to if it would be a good idea to have Colt perform any addition work(tuning,internal cleaning,polishing,etc.)
    The action feels fine as it is, but any beneficial services that could be done while its already there seems like it may be the way to go depending on the cost.
    Any and all suggestions appreciated.Thank you.
