Does anyone have any idea how to field strip an AMT Backup. I acquired 2 of them. 1 has an external safety on the left side of the frame the other does not have a safety and appears to be double action only on the trigger pull

    Many thanks

wasn't aware of High Standard making these, I had one of the older backups years ago that worked well, heavy beast though. Also had an AMT in 9mm that I got new in the box and it worked well till I sold it off. Again, it was too heavy but as a stainless inexpensive (under 2 bills)9mm it made a great boat gun. Course, it was heavy enough that in a pinch I could have used it for an anchor LOL !

    spas12,
If my memory serves me well at all, AMT may have made High Standard pistols for a time; perhaps at the same time as they were making the little backups. Maybe that's the connection and where the confusion comes in?
In other words, no, I don't believe High Standard ever made backups, but the maker of the backup, AMT, may have made some High Standards.
No "good AMT, bad AMT" productions that I'm aware of.
I had a Backup years ago. Reliability was fine, but for me it was just a belly gun and I traded it away for something I could actually shoot groups with in addition to providing a decent carry gun.

    Rob,

That was Mitchell Arms who made the High Standard 22's.

To the OP, I don't know if HS is making the back up now or not, but it's design was a bit flawed anyway. If the design was not right then, it most likely is not now. For what it is worth, for my hard earned $$, I would opt for the Kahr PM-9 instead.

    tsr,
Right you are. So much for "if my memory serves me well"![:D]
Thanks for the correction and clarification.

I looked more closely and it seems the newer ones have a side plate covering the trigger linkage.
Has anyone shot or handled the high standard made ones?
