The standard factory loaded ammo in 7 X 57 is approximately 1/4" longer then the .308, that was standard for the Sako. Check the magazine with a cartridge loaded with the heaviest bullet you intend to use. To see how much fudge factor there is for longer ammo. Of course if you reload it wouldn't be a factor. You could use lighter bullets that have a shorter overall length.

    west virgina cowboy,

"...to properly handle the 7X57mm Mauser cartridge?"

It depends on which ammunition you choose to use.

American (SAAMI) specified Overall Length is 2.800" which does fit the magazine of the L579.

The European ammunition is loaded to 3.070" which is the C.I.P. Overall Length which will not fit the magazine.

    Best.
