Winchester 92 Broken Tang Repair Queston

I am attempting to repair a Winchester 92 (pre 1900). The upper & lower tangs were broken and porely welded back, many years ago. (The old welding was not to bad, but the tangs were not properly lined up with the receiver.) The break was at the back of the hammer & trigger openings. The question is: for TIG welding, what type of welding rod should be used to match (& weld to) the metal of that receiver. [B)]
I know that it will not be original, but I would like to give it a respectable retirement life! Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Texas Bear

  Brownells carries 3 1/2% nickel rod that would be your best bet for a bluing match.

  I would send it to Doug Turnbull to have it welded, and shaped to spec, polished, and finished. It won't be cheap, but it will be done right, and it will retain some of its value.
