Dumb question

I had a guy tell me some SKS models will take a AK mag. Is this true?

    This may seem like a dumb question, but I read something the other day that is really bugging me. It seems, in the article that I read, this gentleman(?) was shooting at people with an 1895 Winchester chambered in 30.06???????? Was this rifle chambered in this caliber? Just didn't seem right to me.

    Relying on my memory here, so don't take this as gospel, but, yes, I'm pretty sure the chambering is correct for this rifle.
    Now let's hear from someone who really knows something........

    Made in 30-40, 30-03, 30-06, 303 Brit, 7.62x54R, 35 Win, 38-72, 40-72, and .405 Win.

    Not originally. Model 1895 came out in 1895. .30-06 didn't come along until 1906.

    It would appear so. The reason why when other Winchester lever action rifles didn't was the box magazine.

    A weird fact about that gun, the most common chambering in the 'ol 1895 was the 7.62x54R Russian round. Most of them made went overseas.

    You could actually buy a new one in 30-06 a few years ago. Maybe you still can. It was from winchester or usraco or one of those, not a repro. It had a box magazine so it could use pointed bullets.

    I was gonna post some pics but they are copyrighted. I am looking at Guns&Ammo's 2005 surplus military firearms edition. There's an 1895 in there with a charger bridge, 28 inch barrel with full stock, ladder sights, and bayonet lug which was used by the Czar's army. It says they bought 300,000 of them in 1915 and 1916.

    The US army evaluated the 1895 in 1899. Those did not have a charger bridge and were not as favored as the Krag already in service, though those also had no charger loading for the most part.

    The modern copies of this gun also come in .270...for whatever reason. I can't imagine they sell really well.

    Oh, and there's never a "dumb" question.Everyone on here has had to ask lots of them at some point to learn what they know.

    I have an old magazine from the early 60s that has an ad selling surplus 1895 Winchesters.The 30-06 were prison guard rifles and cost 25 bucks.They also had 7.62x54R for 20 bucks.

    Seems to me one that I had was marked .30 US and that ammo was "30-40 Krag". Am I right, that was 40 years ago?
