Old Weaver T-16 question

I'm considering buying an early (circa 1980) Weaver T-16 target scope with duplex reticle to use on my caliber .204 Ruger rifle. What do you think of this scope, and do you think that $200 seems like a fair price for one in excellent condition? Thanks.

  I have alot of older rifles - 20's through early 70's and always use a period correct scope on them, so I like and use older scopes. But I would wonder if in the last few years that advances in production have improved the quality of scopes to such a point that a less expensive scope has better optics than an older high quality scope and if a currently mad "about $200.00 scope" would be noticeably better than an older $200.00 scope.
  
  Again, I like the older scopes and think some of the older Japanese made inexpensive scopes are really good, just don't know if technology has made the current stuff much better.

  Didn't those have 1/8 min clicks. My old 222 at 350yds puts the bullet strike on either side of the crosshair with 1/4 clicks.

  If you want to put it on a period rifle, it is a good scope for that. You can get a better new scope for $200 than that Weaver. Both glass and coatings are simply better now.

  It is certainly worth $200.00. The only thing I would be concerned about is the duplex recticle. I would think that would cover alot of the prairie dog at longer yardage. The Micro Trac adjustments are very precise in the two that I have. Yes, the lens coutings today are better, but the clarity of these old scopes is pretty darn good. Plenty good for varmint hunting in my opinion.

  I purchased a T-16 scope in the early 80s and must say it was great for varmint hunting. I had it on a Hall actioned 22-250, hart barell, lee six stock glue-in and was quite happy with that setup, the scope performed great out to 500 yards and beyond. the clicks were precise and it was a fine crosshair. the only thing I didnt like was since there were no turret caps to protect the settings you had to be very careful not to brust up against anything so as not to change your adjustments.

  Thanks for your comments. I just bought it, based a lot on your recommendations. I may put it on an older Sako Vixen in .222 instead of the .204 Ruger. I have several newer variable scopes that should work well on the .204 Another possible home for the T-16 is a Browning B78 single shot in 22-250.
