I no longer have a Stoeger Shooters Bible of that era to look it up for you. You can buy a Unertl base chart from various places for about $5.00.

The older long tube target scopes did not Have as much adjustment built into them . The mount on the rear had the adjustment so lets say all the shooting was done at 50 foot gallery matches then you had a Taller front mount fitted to the barrel then if on the other hand all matches were at 100 plus yards you would mount a shorter front block. Likewise with high power are you shooting at 300 yards and less or 600 yards and more. some Blocks were made with two steps of height in the same block.

From The Rifleman's Rifle by Roger Rule, pages 182 & 185 The front block is .360" high. I can't find a height for the rear block (mounts on the receiver ring) in Rule's book but the Lyman Chart of bases and method of mounting, dated 1952 shows the rear block to be a Lyman "U" which has the height listed as .167".

Discrepancy.... The Lyman chart shows the front block for a National Match be be a Lyman "G" which has a listed height of .315". Rules book, on page 185 says the front block for the Varmint to be "Same as the Target Model". One page 182 it says the front base for the Target Model was .360".

So Rule says the blocks are the same for the Varmint and Target models. Lyman's chart says, for the Target Model, the the blocks are .167" for the rear and .315" for the front.

Lyman says the Bull Barrel front block height is .225" yet Rule, on page 183, says the Bull Barrel front block height is .262".

I hope this information has been of some use. I surely have no explanation for the discrepancies.

Thanks all of you guys. Hawk, I do have an unertl base chart but as Hershel pointed out there seems to be several interpretations as to which height goes where. Perry my goal with this particular rifle is to get it to be usable in the field for varmint eradication from 50-300 yards, it is a swift it should be flat enough to fit the bill[:D], Dokey email sent.
