Am thinking of getting a wheel gun . Would a 27-2 4" bbl and nickle be a good investment or a 6" be better. Blue or Nickle[?]
I have a 29-2 , but I want a 357 mag this time around.

i know the sw model 27 had an initial production run of about 60 years (mid30s-mid90s)and was later reintroduced in 2008.iam thinking of purchasing a 6 inch nickel variety that was made in 1983.i know the 27 had went through some model changes during its long run.can anyone tell me when and what those changes were? and thier opinion of the 27-2 models manufactured in 83. 0 -
Original factory nickel M 27's were not nearly as common as blued ones. Strictly looking at it as a investment I would go with the nickeled version. Be real careful when buying a nickeled gun though, the finish as a lot more fragile then blued. Any flaking or loss in the nickel would likely destroy the value of a collectors quality gun. 0 -
I'm no fan of nickled guns, If you want all weather get stainless steel. If you want a shooter blued is fine and usually shoot better out of the box than ss ones. I'd take a 6 over a 4 bbl. You might consider a nice K-38. Of all my shooting buddies only 2 actually shoot 357 the rest use 38 Spec, all the 44 guys shoot mag or near mag loads. Just a thought. The 27's I have shot were very nice, when slicked up they are top notch shooters. 0 -
I don't think there is too much difference in collector value with 4 or 6 inch barrels. If you're looking for a 27 primarily for investment the 3.5, 5 and 6.5 inch nickel versions are much sought after. Current retail is around $1000 for either but if you can find one at a reasonable price it should continue to appreciate and they're great shooters too. If you want a shooter most any barrel length is ok but I very much like the 8 3/8 in blue; the only one I could shoot well enough to hunt chucks with. 0 -
The M-27 is a fine weapon. If you can find them the 3 1/2", 5" or 6 1/2" would be most desirable for collector value. I would prefer the blue finish, be sure it has not been reblued. 0
