I hope you are not thinking of getting some and putting it on. The way anodizing works is, first they dip the part in anodizing solution which makes the surface become a porous, ceramic aluminum compound, then they dye it, then they seal it.

It will no longer accept dye and if the color is rubbed or scratched off, then the porous part is probably rubbed off too because the dye was in it.

Ok, I know this may sound crazy. But I've used it on cheapo FIE .22 SA revolvers. Color the frame using a Sharpie. Then lightly seal w/spray clear varnish. Take care not to get spray in the mech.

I understand what SoreShoulder is saying. The color is gone from the frame. Could I use Gun Kote or Aluma Hyde ? Would I need to etch the frame before applying the coating?
Man this just keeps bring questions to mind.
If I do use an etching treatment would I still be able to use heat to cure the coating?

    Thanks, Leonard.
