Griffin & Howe Research on all brands of firearmsr
As many post on questions here are ones about history of serial number record on fire arms. I wanted to past along this information . Griffin & Howe purchased the records of two Major Gun Dealers that have gone out of business VonLengerke & Detmold is one and Abercrombie & Fitch the other.Along with their own G&H records, G.& H.has a research dept that has a listing of ALL serial numbers of ALL brands of fire-arms sold by any of these three companies. You can look this up for free and if one or more of the firearms you own show up on their list they will Sell you a folder of all information on inventory as well as copy of original sales invoice to WHOM it was sold to. I was lucky enough to find the serial number of Two of mine listed in the V&D records from 1926 and 1929 I have no connection with G & H but though some of you might find this research information useful. Neat to know. I'm gonna do some research..as every G&H bolt rifle used a donor receiver, then barreled, lapped, trued, polished, finished and re-stocked to the buyer's specifications.
I'm in the dark about the receivers that appear on the G&H double rifles, and SXS shotguns, however. Could they have 'contracted out' for those? Or did they, like H&H, have a forge 'in-house'?
The plot thickens...anyway, Thanks, Karl
