The standard barrel length for all of the various .22 rim fire cartridges was 24-inches. I will need to see pictures of the rifle to determine if $750 is reasonable price or not. One isssue is the serial number is very early for a 22 Long Rifle. The barrel should be marked "22 LONG R."

barrel is as you stated 22 long R barrel good blue,,, reciver and tangs light browning wood has a bit of ding sitting on the shelf at the local fun shop..i would buy it but like i said the barrel muzzle looked like it was polished and the rifling a light recrown rifling is very presentable as is bore..so what is it a 22 long? do not think it was cut as i could see a small pit or two on the muzzle

The muzzle should be in the white, as Winchester did not blue that part of the barrel. Winchester also used a light chamfer on the muzzle.

No, it is the 22 LONG R. chamber that is wrong. I looked up the serial number in Cody records, and it was originally a 22 Short, and it not returned to the factory for rework.

    22 LONG R. = 22 Long Rifle, 40-grain bullet, 1:16 twist rate

    22 LONG = 22 Long, 29-grain bullet, 1:20 twist rate

Winchester manufactured the Model 1885 in both cartridges, but the 22 LONG R. was not available until several years later than the 22 LONG.

    Yes, rebarreled from 22 Short.
