Trade SIG 226 for Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm

I have a M&P 9mm with night sights and it is a good shooter though nothing special. I have the opportunity to trade with someone for an older SIG 226 9mm with SIG adjustable sights that was made in the late 1980's with the older folded slide as he called it. I have no experience with SIG other than I shot a 220 one time and liked it. The SIG is in excellent condition gets great reviews everywhere I look. Is it worth the trade?

  dollar for dollar the Sig is worth more..but how the pistol fits your hand may be more important as the older Sigs usually have a larger grip frame.
  Both are great guns, I would take the 226 over the Smith in an even up trade.

  I would prefer the Sig, BUT the deciding question is: what fits you best? The "folded" slide on the Sig was made by bending heavy sheet metal to form the shell of the slide and then inserting a machined breach block that was held in place by a roll-pin.

  Shoot tham side by side and decide. I had an older Sig that put about 15k rounds through it with no issues, they're pretty durable (but the finish isn't IMO).

  I'd go with the SIG in a hearbeat.
  
  There's nothing whatsoever wrong with SIG's original folded/two-piece slide. In fact many people prefer this type.
  
  Their newer slide design is machined from a single piece of stainless steel and was introduced on the P229 when they first chambered their pistols for the more powerful .40 S&W cartridge. Over time they've transitioned to all their Classic series pistols using this style slide due to ease/cost of manufacture.
  
  My only reservation on this trade would be the adjustable sight you speak of. Is this some sort of aftermarket item?

  Sig IMO but shoot it if you can then decide.If it fits your hands well then a done deal.If not pass.I have a 226 X5,love it.

  Go for the Sig [:p]
  I have a older 226 with the "FOLDED" slide that has 1,000,s of rounds through it. It rattles when you shake it, but is still shooting a good 2" group at 25yds [;)][:D]
  My newer one with the steel slide groups about the same.

  The sight is a factory adjustable sight that came with the gun. The round count is probably low as it does not look like it has been shot much at all. I have always liked Glocks as well and Model 20 is my "go to" gun, but I can pick up Model 19 Glock anywhere for a 9mm. I think I will trade the Smith for the SIG to have something kind of different to shoot. Who knows, I might wind up liking it the SIG best as far as 9mm goes.

  Having worked with them both for IDPA SSP, I think the P226 is better built and more accurate in slow single action shooting. But I can get more hits under action match conditions with the consistent trigger and lower bore line of the Plastic M&P.
  
  But hey, it's not like you are marrying the thing and would need a lawyer to change. Try them all.
