Remington 1148
A friend took an 1148 in trade and wanted to know if I was interested in buying it. It's a 12ga in good shape and the price is about right from what I've seen over on the auction side but I know nothing about the 1148. Anything to look for? Are they decent shotguns? Reliable?

Hard knocking shotguns,,have shot several with no problems. 0 -
A friend has one that was cutdown to be a home gun. He gave it to his girl friend. She could not hit squat with it plus it jamed a lot. I made a taped on ramp type front sight, hosed out the action with WD-40 and gave her a big shoe box of my reloads. If you ask her today she will tell you that that 11-48 is worth it weight in gold. For a no choke gun she can tag anything in range and it never jams. 0 -
Just as with the Remington 11 and Browning A5, you have to readjust the friction piece/ring to match your load as well as keeping the outer surface of the mag tube Clean and Lightly oiled.
If the gun is field worthy just keep those two things in mind and you shouldn't expect problems.0 -
Here's some stuff to look over.. I've had one for many years.. I had to re-stake the operating handle detent, as it would occasionally pop-out.. Other than that, no problems.. your post reminded me I still have it[8D]

First gun I ever bought in 1968. Paid $60's used, still have it. No problems. That friction ring has a flat side and a tapered side for light or heavy loads, make sure you get it turned right or it's going to hurt. 0 -
I have one I bought years ago at a gunshow for $125, its suppose to be ex-State police issue, haven't shot it yet but I recently got a take down manual for it so I can at least give it a good cleaning.
