Stevens Little Scout 14 1/2 Info

Two different gun guides show two different periods of manufacturing for the STEVENS LITTLE SCOUT 14 1/2 boys' rifle. Blue Book shows 1909-1936 (37 yrs.), and Standard Catalog shows 1911-1941 (30 yrs). With some additional information in the Standard Catalog listing, I'm more convinced theirs is probably the most accurate.



Does anyone out there have some additional information about the production dates, and production figures hopefully?

Plus, my rifle has a very distinct circular stamp on the left side of the receiver with the initials SVG in it. Does anyone know what this might stand for? It is slightly smaller than a dime.

  Savage acquired the Stevens company IIRC in the early 20s. Scouts made AFTER the takeover have SVG for Savage.

  Thanks, 11b6r. The Savage purchase in 1920 of the Stevens manufacturing plant is mentioned. However the guns were still marked "J. Stevens Arms Co." which was dropped in the late '40s, and used only the name "Stevens" (as this one does) has been used up to 1990.
  
  I had long ago assumed the SVG stamping on my Scout was after the new ownership.
  
  Below photo shows Stevens Savage stamping on my Mdl. 89
  
  
  
  The Savage purchase hits kinda' the center of both guides' time lines, AND, there is a discrepancy of 7 YEARS between the two publishers' manufacturing dates.
  
  Am still hoping to find more exact info on production figures of this little fellow.

  Flayderman's Guide also lists c. 1911-1941.

  1911-1933 according to Frank de Haas. The purple cast to your frame leads me to believe that it may have been re-blued.

  I have one of these that hasn't been redone. My dad used to shoot it. Everything is still tight without any cracks. No SVG so before 1920 apparently. Also have a crackshot 26 .32 with the svg. Wish someone would swoosh in and take the little scout in trade for a ruger charger. Thanks for the info on the savage stamp. Helped me date mine a little closer.
