have a 1911 w/80,s firing system. want to convert to 70,s. have filler blank on hand. what else is needed and anything i mite need to know?

YESThe series 80 Hammer does not have the normal half cock Hammer Hooks . I know the non series 80 don't like to call the half cock notch the safety notch But in fact this notch does have an over hanging HOOK . the series 80 just has a shelve. for half cock [:(!][V][xx(] with Federal primers you might get a KABOOM. Be aware NRA BULLS-EYE rules state all safeties as shipped from the factory on any gun must work to be legal.This I [^] approve. So lets say you go to local matches and no one checks your pistol then you go to camp Perry with all the planning time and money spent when you get your equipment inspected, BAM, you will not be allowed to compete [:(!] For non match shooting this might not be a problem but I would still change out the hammer and sear. This might dictate you replace the safety also.
EDIT I really don't know what to tell you I know you already have the series 80. I was just trying to relate what has happened at Camp Perry. I would never try to modify or own a series 80 both from a legal aspect & or as a safety aspect. The problem as I see it is the fire control system that includes three major parts Hammer Sear & Safety all need to be fitted to each other . You might get away with only changing one or two of the three but just make sure with the safety on and the trigger pulled the hammer does not drop and then Pull the trigger HARD with the safety on then thumb the safety down the hammer should not fall. BE safe !!!! and don't let anyone fire your pistol unless they know and understand the series 80 parts are modified. BE SAFE.0 -
