WINCHESTER 1887 NICKEL PLATED

I HAVE A WINCHESTER MODEL 1887 LEVER ACTION SHOT GUN THAT IS NICKEL PLATED. THE PLATING IS SO OLD THAT IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE A FACTORY JOB. I DO NOT FIND ANY INFO THE WINCHESTER EVER PLATED THIS MODEL GUN -- I THINK THE GUN WAS PLATED SHORTLY AFTER IT WAS MADE AND WONDER WHY IT WAS DONE -- IT WOULD NOT BE A PARADE TYPE GUN -- YOU WOULD NOT WANT A BIG FLASHY GUN IN THE FIELD OR DUCK BLIND-- THE ONLY THOUGHT IS TO PROTECT THE GUN IN A SALT WATER LOCATION -- I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTS IN THIS MATER -- RICK

  Madis states that plated finishes were offered. Might be worthwhile to see if this letters with the Cody museum if you are reasonably sure this looks original. Does look quite old.

  Shot guns had many uses beside hunting. How about Prison guard or other law Enforcement these APPS you want the gun to be seen.

  I too highly recommend researching it through the Cody Firearms Museum research office.
