Traveling through Europe with rifles

As long as the rifles have been cleared before you arrive (get that paperwork filed long before you depart) and they stay at the airport during your stay (there may be a storage fee) you should have no problems. Forget all about any idea that you might walk out of the Amsterdam airport with your rifles in tow, hop into a rental car and tour the country with the guns in the trunk. Firearms are moved through commercial air all of the time and as long as they don't move outside the airport prior to their end destination (Jo-burg in this case)there are few problems.

Best to leave them and rent as needed as you go...

You will need a Form SAPS 520 to bring the firearms into South Africa. Make certain that you have this form with you and also have a copy packed along with the rifles as this will indicate that their final destination is South Africa. It would not hurt to also have a copy of a State hunting license in with the guns to show that you are a legitimate 'sportsman".

ALSO- check w/ US Customs in advance- there is a form (THINK is 4455, but not sure) that allows you to declare guns/ammo/scopes/binocs you are taking with you, so there is no argument with US Customs when returning with them.

Very informative thank you. It would appear as though flying through Atlanta is the lesser of all evils[B)].
