perry shooter?
acquired a 1911 colt slide.. essex frame. missing mag. what,where do you suggest i get a replacement,that should? function? just for shooting cans,etc.?

OLD perry Shooter will sell you some if you come to the big gun Show FEB 24-26 at Louisville KY. [:D] but seriously the 45 should work with most any Mag. should work. IF the Essex frame is one of the good ones "THEY HAD QUALITY CONTROL PROBLEMS" with the magazine well placement in relation to slide stop pin hole and also magazine latch to top of frame rails height. come for a visit we will take it to the range and swap parts until it works 100%. I like Metal Form been using the same 4 magazines for 35 + years. 0 -

i had my head up.. well you know. i forgot to mention it is a .22 colt conversion slide on an essex frame. missing the .22 mag. that is what i need a repacement for. i have a gold cup nm for my serious stuff. 0 -
Be aware there are many Colt DIFFERENT colt conversion unit magazines the early Ace "not the conversion unit" used a special magazine to be correct with the rest of this pistol the Magazine will cost you $200.00 + or - depending on condition . Then the first Service Model conversion units came out these Had the letter U on top of the slide they had a metal magazine follower and the base was PINNED on so they could be taken apart to clean. price on these run $75.00 + or -. Then a magazine with base that slid off front to back and these run $40.00 + or -. Then aftermarket magazines that are priced all over the place. The magazines that look like Colt but come in a Marval have the magazine follower modified to cripple the last round hold open feature, because that feature does damage to an aluminum slide. Then we have all plastic Kimber magazines these seem to work well in most any conversion unit. Be aware the biggest problem with conversion units are the magazine and how they set in the frame. You might have one conversion that works 100% on one frame and be JAM_O_MATIC when on a different frame. The fact that the cartridges are rimfire they feed at an angle. A tight magazine well can deform the magazine causeing the spring to be too weak to push the rounds up The second thing is the frame may have had the frame rails PEENED down when on a 45ACP match pistol this will place the conversion unit too low on the frame and the slide will drag thus JAMS and the third and most common problem is the magazine release is in the wrong place . EITHER TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW in the frame This needs to be just right for the nose of the bullet to be lined up to the center of the bore of the barrel.

thanks man. i will let you know how it turns out. my hunting bud has a colt conv. on a safari arms frame that shoots well. i am going to borrow one of his mags when i get it and try her out. 0
