New Model SuperBlackhawk-Broken transfer bar?

I recently had the transfer bar break on my revolver. I bought the gun used, it was in very good shape. It broke while I was dry-firing it. Just wondering if this was the result of too much dry-firing? I could'nt put a number on it but probably 200+ times fired dry.

  It likely was from dry-firing, but its not something a competent gunsmith can't replace. Ruger would probably fix it for free, but it can probably be done without sending it to Ruger.

  Where did the break occur?
  May have been from dry firing, but once you get it fixed I wouldn't stop dry firing because of it. My guess is that it was a rare defect and that Ruger might well just send you a new one without having to return the revolver.
  I bought a new Smith Model 18 a few years back. Dry fired it about half a dozen times and the hammer spur fell off. Those things happen.

  The ONLY pistol I ever DRY FIRE is a 1911. Mainly because any and all parts likely to be damaged are very easy to find and replace. The load on any parts involved when Dry Firing CAN be different then live fire. The design goes a long way on how this change is handled . I have purchased a number of revolvers that had the recoil plate deformed by dry firing . In normal use the firing pin is only hitting a Brass primer cup. This offers a cushion to all moving parts that then come to a stop at the end of their movement. when dry firing parts might hit other parts that NEVER come in contact with each other in normal firing . I like SNAP CAPS and change them out from time to time they even get battered/damaged. The BIG advantage to a 1911 design is the INERTIA firing pin design[^]

  A broken Tbar on a Ruger is not all that rare,I"ve read many accounts of it happening over the years. I won't own a new model with Tbar,plain and simple.
  Last I heard,ruger makes ya send the gun in for what is a pretty simple fix,hope I"m wrong about that.

  Ruger will fix that transfer bar, and its worth it to let them do it. They don't want the lawyers calling if something happened with a revolver without a transfer bar, not to mention they are just dang nice people. I agree with the snap caps, it cant hurt and does help with some wear. But keep dry firing, it will smooth up your trigger and keep you in shape.

  I had one break a few years ago. I bought a new one from Numrich, they sent the wrong one and I ended up sending the gun to Ruger to be fixed. They did a great job and fixed some other stuff for no charge.

  There seems to be a common denominator in broken transfer bars in Ruger revolvers...and it can be checked.
  
  Cock the hammer and lower it...keeping the trigger held full rearward.
  Release the trigger and watch the hammer. If it moves forward more than just a tiny bit...and by that, I mean barely discernible movement...the transfer bar will probably break at some point. How long it takes depends a lot on how far the hammer moves...or how much gap there is between the top of the hammer face and the frame when the lower impact surface is bearing on the bar.
