Bolts do turn up, you might try posting in the wanted forum. I'd contact Rem and get a proper fitted bolt.

    eclipse,

In the first place Remington doesn't 'fit' bolts. They simply put a barrel on an action and adjust the headspace by tightening the barrel. You can find original Remington M700 bolts for sale on many of the forums through private parties. These bolts come up for sale because the owners have switched to a one-piece bolt manufactured by PTG. The bolts run anywhere from $95.00/each to over $200.00/each depending on the greed of the seller or the stupidity of the buyer.

Any of the current .308 bolts (0.473" bolt face diameter) will work in the action. Your gunsmith can 'fit' the bolt for headspace by adjusting the bolt face and lapping the lugs. He may even have one lying around from a trade or swap, it wouldn't hurt to ask...

You could have a PTG bolt fitted to your M700 but the cost is high, somewhere between $165 up to $325 depending on additional parts and accessories. These are one-piece machined bolts with no soldering or welding.

Check the Auction side and post a request in the Wants Ads forums here.

    Best.
