CMP Query

Although I am qualified, I have never done business with the CMP. I'm just wondering if there are any suggestions you might have, or things to do to make sure you get what you pay for. I may be in the Atlanta area next month, and could stop, either to order, or to pick up. THX HAWKSHAW

    I ordered a service grade M1 Garand from them a couple of years ago. This was during the post election rush. I filled out the papperwork and waited 6 months (I understand the wait is 30-60 days now) and received the most beautiful rifle I think I have ever laid eyes on. It was much better than I had expected. My credit card company reissued a new card about 3 weeks after sending in the order due to a security breach. I called the CMP and they took the new card info and said they would put it with my file. I have not heard a single person say they were dissatisfied with any CMP purchase.

    If within driving distance, I would definately go to the showroom and handpick my rifle. Not that you'll get a better specimen but just seeing the selection would be worth 300-400 miles to me.

    Go in Person well worth seeing what is available TAKE EXTRA $$$ I was always amazed at what I could find in their store at CAMP PERRY.

    I have purchased numerous rifles, accessories and ammunition from the CMP and have never been dissatisfied. In all fairness, I must say I did get an M1 Carbine with a cracked stock once, but they took care of it with minimal hassle.

    I am a bit confused, though, as to what Atlanta would have to do with the CMP as I understand the stores are in Alabama and Ohio.

    I got a CMP M-1 several years ago for $500 bucks. I must admit that the receiver/barrel metal finish was much nicer than I expected, tho the stock, buttplate and trigger guard were a bit beaten up. I got a buttplate and trigger guard with good finish off eBay and a $90 sale priced Boyds stock set, and the thing looks like it's ready to be issued. So far 100% reliable and pretty darn accurate, too.

    Taking I-20 Westbound from Atlanta, and about an hour of your time, will take you to the CMP at Anniston. Best, Joe

    My club has dealt with them. CMP is a quality org and is highly recomended. Good folks.

    Got an 03A3 from them several years ago. The stock looked like it had been through a war, which I have no problem with. They are, after all milsurplus and that just adds character. What got me was the condition of the bore. Although it was stamped 2-42, (Feb 1942) I don't think it had ever been fired. The rifling was just too crisp and clean. Out of the box it fired 3" left and 1" high at 100 yards. A couple of clicks to the sights and, bulls eye.
    The people at CMP are great. They will answer any questions and they truly are experts on U.S. military rifles. Go for it. [:D]
