Range report: Springfield EMP 40
I have put 300 rounds through this new pistol. It is the two tone EMP but it does not have "match" stamped on the barrel like others I have seen. Springfield advertises the two tone as having a match barrel....
I was very impressed with the accuracy. I have a ParaOrnance in .45 acp with a Shueman Classic barrel that I compared with the EMP. Both pistols shoot Remington standard, jacketed ammo the best of several others I tested, including premium brands. I found they both shoot almost exactly the same.
Para:
Off the bench at 15 yards shoots 2 inch or less 8 shot groups consistently. (185 grain bullets)
Off hand at 12 yards I fired 100 rounds at a six inch bull. All were in the black except 8 rounds that were out of the black but still in the 7 ring which is one inch wide. If you didn't count these eight the group would have been five inches.
EMP:
Off the bench at 15 yards shoots 2 inch or less 8 shot groups consistently. (180 grain bullets, the 150's grouped almost twice this size.
Off hand at 12 yards I fired 40 rounds at a six inch bull. All were in the black except 4 which were in the 7 ring.
Now I know this isn't impressive shooting, but the point is to show that the EMP 3 inch barrel performance compares exactly to a five inch barrel pistol with a target barrel. The addition of the target barrel to the Para reduced group size from five inches at 15 yards. I am sure there are many shooters out there that could use these same pistols and shoot much tighter groups.
The EMP is now my carry gun, back country or downtown. I have tried other pistols over the years and none this compact came close to this accuracy.
