P89 JUNK?

Had a person tell me the P89 DC was junk and that was the reason Ruger quit making it. What is the good bad and ugly in your personal experience?

  Your person needs a good correcting. The reason they stoppd the P89, as they did the P90, would because they stopped making the all metal framed guns. The P95, and P345 are both polymer framed. The P85, P89, and P90 were all very robust, well made, accurate, and reliable handguns. They are not the prettiest, but they are the choice of many.

  I recently picked up a Ruger KP944 in 40 caliber, this is my first Ruger centerfire pistol and I am VERY impressed with it. Its not the best looking pistol on the market but it just digests anything I feed it and as far as accuracy, it's as good as my Sig P226 in 40 caliber!

  They were heavy and not very sexy, but the ones my cohorts used on duty always went bang with whatever they fed them.. which is pretty much par for the course with Rugers in general.

  Although I usually carry a KP95DC, I have carried a P89DC numerous times. Good enough to trust my life to but maybe your life demands a more "spendy" logo.

  A friend of mine had his P89 stolen, tossed in the woods in San Francisco and left there for about 6 months - very foggy & wet. When recovered it spent the next 5 years in his garage in Oregon. I stripped it, did a little clean up, scrubbed the stainless parts, replaced some small blued steel parts such as the sights, screws and the darn thing works perfectly.
  
  I still think they're clubby and ugly looking butthe darn think is well engineered and built.

  The only flaw I know of on the P series was the brass ejected up and back and would almost always hit you in the face or land on your head or down your collar.

  I have a P89DC and as said, would trust my life to it. Accurate beyond what I am capable of, overbuilt and reliable to a fault like a Mack truck. They were Ruger's answer to the 'wonder nines'. But like most Rugers, were somewhat homely, heavy to carry,and not racy looking nor teutonic engineering, again like 'Ol reliable Mack. Won't part with mine til the last.

  My wife got me a P85 for my birthday when they first came out 25 years ago. I still have both the P85 and the wife, not sure which I would part with if I had to choose between them.
  
  I've added a P89 and a P90 as well and they're "go to guns".
  
  Had a friend in the SEALS years ago, the P89 was his gun of choice. Claimed it would feed anything, always went bang, and when you ran out of ammo it had enough mass to do some damage when used as a club.
  
  Whoever told you that, well, he's not well informed to say the least.
