Try a look through a Leupold 3-9 variable, or if you like a fixed power scope; you can't go wrong with a Redfield or Weaver.

The most value priced scope on the market right now, and a very fitting one for the purpose, would be the Burris full Field II, in either 3-9x40, or 4.5-14x40. Their quality compares to the Leupold VX-II series, and are priced at roughly half to two thirds of what the VX-II cost. They definately smoke the Rifleman, and VX-I scopes from Leupold.

I have a FF-II on my CZ-453 Varmint in 17 HMR. It is one tack driving machine!

I put a later production Bushnel 3x9x40 with the erup style focus on my Ruger 22/77 conversion to 17hmr. It works great, I put a few clay pigons out on the 100yd berm and bust one. Then I go back and pick off the quarter sized leftovers. I should also mention that I reworked the trigger and installed a 17cal Green Mountain bull barrel during the conversion to accept the rimfire magnum magazine. The 17hmr hasn't much recoil so as long as the optics are good, clear and repeatable then you should need to get much money into a scope. Good luck....

Hunting buddy has the BSA sweet 17 on his marlin and its one nice scope. Easily busting steel plates and beer cans out at 200 with this scope. Quick turn of the turret and I'm killing squirrels at close range with ease.
