Shipping handgun from Wyoming to Alaska?
Yes, I read the sticky and the links but am now even more confused. Is it possible to send a handgun to Alaska? It would have to go over Canada and I don't really see it going from here to there overnight. There is no direct flight from here to there. Also, is there some way to absolutely guarantee the guy I am sending it to gets it rather than the handgun getting caught up in some legal mumbo-jumbo where we both lose out? This is a potential gift gun rather than a sale and we are both totally legal to own handguns. I know that some of you have extensive experience shipping things like this but, if this can legally happen, it is my first.

Has to be shipped to a Federal Firearms Dealer in Alaska. Some dealers will not accept guns from a non licensee, this has to be addressed by you with him prior to shipment. Shipment by you has to be by either FedEx or UPS. Priority overnight is their required shipping method for handguns, this with insurance is very expensive unfortunately. Many times it's cheaper and easier to have a local FFL ship it for you, to the FFL in Alaska.

Probably the safest and cheapest method would be to have YOUR FFL send it by US Mail to his FFL. That is legal and usually less expensive than FedEx or UPS. Compare the rates and make your decision. [:D] 0 -

No. Give your friend the link provided by rufe-snow, have him locate an FFL at his end, then, once the FFL is established by your friend in Alaska, have your friend send you the receiving FFL's business address (gunshop address) for shipment up there.
Ideally, the FFL should be willing to accept a shipment from a non-FFL. If the FFL in Alaska is not willing to accept a shipment directly from you...then
you to go to your local FFL (you can use the same Gunbroker FFL list at your end), and have them ship it via USPS.
Cost? (take this with a ton of leeway)..$30 through the mail, and somewhere greater than $100 through UPS/FedEx. Best, Joe0 -

I would love to go to Alaska but total disability doesn't cover anywhere near something like that. Barely covers the bills even though I have paid into the system for nearly 50 years.0 -
Gravley- not legal. Except for inheritance, when ownership of firearm is transferred across a state line, you need a FFL to be involved. 0 -
I suggest you use an FFL at each end. The last hand gun I shipped to a smith a couple of years ago cost $80 to UPS to him and about $7.50 for him to mail back. In all probability it will be cheaper to have a local FFL mail it to an FFL in Alaska. Best of Luck with it. 0 -
Go to your local dealer. Have him USPS flat rate ship it. Most handguns will fit a flat rate box. Should cost you under $40 with insurance. If you go Fedex or UPS it will cost you alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0 -
A lot of very good information here. thank you all! This handgun is going to a very good friend of mine that has spent tours in both Iraq and Afgahnistan. He made it very obvious that he was interested in my Ruger Super Blackhawk, 45 Colt, and now that I am getting up there in age, along with some medical problems, I want to make sure he gets it. He is not a relative at all but I kind of think of him as one of mine. There will be absolutely no exchange of money, it is more that I know he will appreciate it and take care of it along with him knowing who gave it to him and why. I have plenty of other guns for my real kids to inherit but this one has special meaning to both him and me. Again, thanks to you all. I think now all I need to do is find an FFL that is close to where he lives. 0 -

NO!!
Give him the GB FFL list, and let HIM pick out what FFL he should use to receive the firearm.
Let him choose! It may come down to something as abstract as gunshop 'A', where there's potholes on the road, and gunshop 'B', where there's none! We don't know just who to choose. He will!
...and once he's chosen, he'll let you know where to send it!
