USRAC 1886 Takedown 45-70 1999 Production

Came across one of these today in excellent condition although without the box and papers. Fjestad's book says the takedown model was only made in 1999. Does anybody know how many were made? Google searches don't return much on the takedown version and I've found little history of recent sales. This one has a Lyman 66 receiver sight instead of the original buckhorn but does not appear to have been fired much if at all since leaving the factory. I plan to keep it and shoot it but would appreciate comments about accuracy and ammo in addition to production numbers. I load 45-70 pretty hot for my Ruger #1 but assume with this 1886 I should stick closer to factory load pressures. Anyone have experience with this version of the 1886?

  Check for country of origin markings, (as required by U.S. law).
  
  If it's one of the Miroku made replicas, start GOOGLEing you might be able to get some production information that way. I understand some of their replicas are made in relatively short runs. That might be the reason USRA only sold them for a year?

  I think it will forever with factory load pressures. As a safety tip only load one brand of case and/or bullet in the low pressure loads. Anything that's different goes in the #1

  I keep them seperate by only using lead bullets for my 1873 Trapdoor.
  I have a #3 carbine so I have to back off a bit as the stock design makes the hot loads really PAINFUL.

  You have an excellent rifle there.
  
  It was made in Japan by Miroku, Browning's current producer of much of their line. As most of us know, Browning is Winchester's sister division, under the direction of FN.
  
  I have one of those rifles, and replaced the rear sight, with a folding ladder. I shoot the 405 grain hard cast, #1 Buffalo, from Misourri Bullet Company, on top of 32-34 grains of IMR 4198. It pretty much mimmicks the original load of around 1400-1600 FPS, and is plenty for anything on this contenent. It is also very accurate, and easy on the shoulder. It has won several informal competition matches at the local Rod & Gun club, ie. centerfire rifle shoot, just before deer season, where any centerfire rifle is welcome. It excells at the 200 yard 9" steel plate, offhand event.

  I do believe that there were around 2000 of these made, and that is a high figure, as I have heard both that, and 1100.
  
  As for load pressures, this rifle will handle anything the Marlin 1895 can handle, and so will the new 1885 single shots. I believe Garrett makes a 420 grain load that runs 1850 fps, that are safe for this rifle.
