Blueing touchup
Hello all, has anyone used the blueing touchup pens? do they work or is there a better alternative to cover up minor scratches without a complete reblue job?...thanks in advance AH

Yep, they do work, but are about as durable as indelible marker ink. Color is not perfect, but they do cover bare metal. 0 -

None that I've ever found. Your basic choices are hot blue (dipping the whole gun) and cold blue (spot touch ups). What a lot of us do is use the cold blue touchups until there are so many touchups that it exceeds your personal taste and then spring for a hot blue job by a professional. The minor scratches won't hurt the shootability of the gun and it makes you looks like an ol' experienced shooter to the noobs at the range. [:D] The day after you get it back from being polished and hot blued, guess what, you'll scratch it. [}:)] Then you start the whole sequence all over again. [:D]
Good hint from below. Heat the area up with your wife's hair dryer before applying the cold blue. Also, ensure that area is totally cleaned of any oil before applying the blue. Once you have let the blue do its work, rinse it off thoroughly and then oil. [:)]0 -
The key to doing blue touch ups is to have the metal slightly warm as well and the blueing liquid, makes all the difference. 0 -
VANS GUN BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! look it up online. This stuff is beyon great for touch ups and a total reblue. I saw a demonstration on it and bought some. I touched up alot of guns an reblued a whole stevens side by side shotgun with it. The gun looks brand new and the touch up jobs, you cant even tell.It cost about 8 bucks.I will bet my life on this product. I dont make recomendations ever, but this stuff I will. Oak 0 -
