I have the 721 in 300 H & H - 26" bbl with the rear sight boss present. I'm not sure on the answer but note that Numrich Arms lists the 30.06 stock and the 300 H & H stock as separate items.

I'm not too up on the 721s. The 300 is listed as "long action" but my understanding is the 721s are all long action, as compared to the 722 as a short action.

You did not indicate why your barreled action won't fit but, FWIW, the barrel on my 1961 722 .222 Magnum is 24" (not 26" as earlier ones) and without the rear sight boss. My research indicates that the last year 721/722 production barrels, probably as Remington was setting up for the 700 introduction, were 2" shorter and w/o the sight boss; the rear sight was attached with 2 screws. I have early 50's 721's in both .30/06 and .300 H&H--if you want, I will remove the stocks and see what the differences are. My guess is that, like the Winchester 70, wood is removed at the front of the magazine box to make room for the longer box.

My barrel is far too fat from recoil lug to up past the boss. The stock in question is exact fit for standard caliber
