Marlin 1894S 44Mag
I have just picked up a Marlin 1894S and checked the trigger pull and found it to be just about one pound. Any opinions on how safe this is and if not what suggestions

Must be the reason Bubba got rid of it. With it EMPTY try working the action several times really fast and see if it stays cocked. With it cocked thump the butt on the floor and see if stays cocked. Maybe a cowboy action after market trigger/sear hammer.
Have you cleaned the action? Could be dried grease build up in the notch.0 -
1 LB is not a safe trigger pull on a hunting rifle. Either the sear engagement has gone south, or more likely some bubba gunsmith has screwed up a trigger job. Take it back where you got it for a refund if possible. Send it to Marlin if you can't return it where you got it. Because of legal liability all gun manufacturers are very sensitive about trigger pulls, they might fix it for free. 0 -
With the chamber empty and the hammer cocked press forward on the hammer spur to see if it will push off. Then push upward and forward to check the same thing. If it is truly a 1lb +/- pull it needs to be corrected before being used. 0 -

+1000. Send it back to marlin and let them fix it. They probably will do it free of charge. They are a great company to deal with.0 -
It might be cheaper to just order a hammer and trigger. 0
