Help Identifing an heirloom. Old Colt (new photo)

I inherited this gun about 10 years ago but no one can tell me the model. Im pretty sure its a .38 but thats all I know. The serial # is the only thing legible as 338152. There is also a small 6 and TP barely visible below the serial #. Mainly just want to know age and model. Its obviously in horrible condition so not interested in selling but wouldnt mind knowing the value.

  Waaaay too dark. Could be Offical Police, Army Special (same gun), Police Positive, or a couple of more. Probably civilian because of the grip Colt.

  My WAG from the serial number, adjustable sights and grips. It's a Second Issue, Officers Model, dating to 1912. Colt transitioned to wooden grips shortly after this.
  
  EDIT #1, As far as value is concerned. Due to it's current condition it would be only nominal. Probably maxing out for $200 for parting out. If it is a 2nd issue Officers Model, in excellent condition, probably at least $1200 or more?
  
  
  EDIT #2, Notice the adjustable sights on these Colt Officers Models. The one with the black hard rubber grips is the earlier one.

  If it is still functional, DO NOT attempt to fire it w/modern high pressure loads. Stick to the low pressure stuff.

  Could it be a New Service? I have a New service in 45 Colt nickeled from the factory made in 1938. About the same serial # range. Colt went to the round cylinder release in 1935. Flat latch before that. I also have a New Service 1939 nickeled also. Look cool walking around gun shows and working my table.

  It is a Police Positive. It sould be marked on the left side of the barrel. They were made in 38 S&W and 38 Special.

  It is an Officer's Model Target.
  Not a New Service. Not a Police Positive Special.
  
  Interesting samples, rufe.
  The one with hard rubber grips is a Heavy Barrel, which I though to be a late type. The other is a .22, cute.
