New AR15 prep
Proud new owner of a S&W M&P 15. What kind of prep should I do before shooting. Should it be stripped, cleaned and lubed before the first trip to the range?

Just take it out and shoot it. You might want to take a quick look down the bore to make sure there isn't anything there that shouldn't be. 0 -
I would suggest running a bore brush and a cloth patch down the bore prior to firing. 0 -
It wouldn't hurt to put a couple of drops of CLP on the bolt carrier and in the trigger group. Other than that and what was previously posted, just shoot the thing. 0 -
It only takes a couple of minutes to open it up, remove the bolt and put some grease on the locking lugs/cam pin and a little oil around the bolt/carrier. Definately, run some patches or a bore snake through the barrel. 0 -

Properly lube it where needed. I assume you already know where and how since you've watched the videos on youtube. Youtube videos can be EXTREMELY helpful! I use them a lot myself when playing with an unfamiliar firearm.
The first thing you should run through it is something to make sure the barrel is not obstructed: patch, bore snake, etc. You don't want a stray metal shaving from the factory that you can't see just by looking down the barrel causing a nice new gouge when you fire it. If you do, bye bye accuracy.
The second thing you should run through it: AMMO!

The one video I watched showed them lightly oiling specific spots. What about grease? Does it need grease or just gun oil? 0 -
Use oil only no grease. 0
