Mossberg & Sons 51m .22lr
Hello. I am trying to reassemble a Mossberg 51m. I install the bolt in the rifle, and the hammer, mainspring cap etc. When I install the mainspring and try to put the cocking knob in it won't lock in. Keeps falling out. I take it all apart and it will lock when out of the receiver, but not when in.
Any help really appreciated

Roger, the trick is to push the bolt in only enough to see the handle hole clear the opening in the receiver, then install the knob, close and lock the bolt. Took me a while to figure it out

I'll give it a try that way. I've been on it for 3 days now.
Will let you know how it works out. Thanks Dokey.0 -
Pete...It worked! I messed with a lot of weapons before and got them going easily. Never believed a 60 year old .22 would take me 3 1/2 days. Brought this back to life for my father in law.
Thank you so much Pete!0 -
In case you didn't know the 51M has no external safety .You have to pull the cocking lever back and push it into the first notch to put it on Safe. 0 -
Got it. Thanks buddy. 0 -
Those of us that are hard corps Mossberg addicts know about Damguy's Mossberg site. Here is the original instruction sheet for a 51M (b)-
