Vaquero DOM
Can someone give the year a 44mag vaquero SER# 56-92xxx was born in?
Also it doesn't have a half cocked position.
I know next to nothing about SA revolvers.
Does this indicate something is broke,or is it how the old Vaqueros are?
Is it loaded by simply opening the gate and turning the cyl.while the hammer is down?
Does closing the gate lock the cylinder from turning?
I don't have the gun in front of me anymore.
Gun store says it functions as it should.
Mint condition visually with excellent bore.
Put it in layaway.
Questions came to mind later.

Ruger.com Customer Service has a SN/date function

Nothing wrong, Ruger New Models (since 1973) do not have a half cock but do have a transfer bar which lets you carry it safely with all 6 chambers loaded.
Is it loaded by simply opening the gate and turning the cyl.while the hammer is down?
Yes. You do have to be careful to line up each chamber to load and unload, it does not click into position like an Old Model or Colt.
Does closing the gate lock the cylinder from turning?
Well, sort of. It lets the hand and bolt engage to lock the cylinder with a chamber in line with the barrel.0 -
You have an "old style" Vaquero, born in 1998. 0
