Scope base refinish question
Wanting a dual dovetail base for a K frame smith in matte finish. Problem is that Leupold only makes them in gloss blue and silver. Thinking about having a gloss one glass honed or trying something to make it close to matte. Any ideas?

Maybe chemical etch or a bead blast treatment. 0 -
Vapor blasting with plastic grit will achieve the matte finish,(on the gloss blue one). Only thing is you will have to refinish them.. I would use Brownell's Oxpho-Blue. 0 -
Even someone obsessive/compulsive like me wouldn't bother with refinishing a scope base. The odds are that you won't be happy with the results of a refinishing attempt. If it were me, I'd use the scope base as it comes, & not worry about it.

OK, guess I'm obsessive/compulsive enough that I bead blasted the bases & rings when I did the barreled action & hot blued all. Luckily, all came out similar in color. 0 -
I have matt silver and gloss silver.. I think they're nickel???
