Value of Ruger M77 458?
I've checked the Blue Book of Gun Values. For the tang safety M77RS African in 100% condition they show only $600. I've checked the auction side here. Lots of No-Sells for bids that didn't meet reserves, One or two that sold under $750. What do you consider a tang safety M77RS worth? Made in 1975 in 98% condition. No box, papers, or rings. Standard wood is nice with a little figure in buttstock. Dealer is asking $995 and will take $900 OTD. Good price or pass? I'm leaning on passing as I own a pair of beautifully stocked No. 1's in that caliber. Thanks for any replies and suggestions.

No a lot of call for that caliber stateside. $600 seems low to me, the around 750 sounds fair. 900 seems way high, let them hold it for several years with no interest in it then perhaps they will take a reasonable offer.
added I have a 45-350 Rem Mag built by P. O. Ackley. 5.25 pounds loaded with sling - kills on both ends. It's in between a 458 W and the 2" American. You never know when a rouge Elephant will turn up. "I never thought that I would have to shoot threw dirt" Burt Gummer.0 -
Hello TW I read your post and first thing I thought was who would want or need 3 Rifles in 458 [?] then had to laugh at myself[:o)] I have a desire to own every type of Colt 45acp ever produced and so far only have full size government models albeit more than 3 of those. Buy what you like and willing to keep for life not what you think might go up in value. I have more regrets on guns I did not buy then any the i regret for buying some have been a disappointment but those I sold as a learning experience 0 -
I have one and wound not sell for less than the 8 to 9 hundred range just based on what I have seen them sell for mine has the fancier walnut stock ( name slips my mind starts with a c ) not much big game here but just fun to shoot and a conversation piece for sure . make him a low all offer and let him thing about it .
I bought mine 25 + years ago traded a mini 14 and 100 dollars for it at a gun show I will in all likely hood never sell it .
bottom line regardless of the price if your happy with it and feel comfortable spending the money that's all that matters in the long run .0 -
Thanks for your reply. I believe the wood in your gun is Circassian walnut. I bet it is a beautiful rifle. There is something special about big bores, especially with nice wood. 0
