If truly a 1st year, unaltered, high condition gun, it may bring premium money. I say may.

Pump shotguns don't draw the money that other guns draw, like compared to a '94 Winchester.

Uh, I would be a bidder.. Let me know when you list it. I have quite a few 870's. Wingmaster's are in my opinion, the best shotgun EVER made. I just got my first 1100 and cannot wait to shoot it. I see 870's go for next to nothing at gun shows, but have never seen a first year production one. If that is the case and this is a first year, You will do good. A lot better then 100 bucks.

It might extra value to a true collector if and when they come across it. Serial number 1 seems to be worth extra, the rest of the single digits considerably less. Same goes for double digits. First year production of say 10 or 100 thousand units, it's not like a lithography print that degrades with higher numbers. But hey I'm a shooter not a collector.

I also have a 1950 870 in good used condition. The barrels are serial numbered to the gun so that would be something to check to save some heartache.

I guess I never seen a 870 barrel with the serial number on it, when did they stop doing that ?

I'm not sure when they stopped, but all previous Remingtons (Mod 10, Mod 31, etc.) had serial numbered barrels. The early 870 barrels can't be used on modern 870's either. Short tang vs long tang. I had to replace the ejector on mine and made that discovery.
