Removing Chrome plating from gun part

Any advise on removing chrome plating from a gun part. Did a Google search and looks like there are several methods. I am looking for the one with the least trouble that works. Can it be buffed off?

  I used glass beads on a '70 series Colt combat commander that was satin nickel. You might need to use, I think it is called starlight, to cut the hard chrome.

  Hydrochloric acid will readily strip chrome plating.

  First, are you sure it is chrome? The finish used on guns that is silver/shiny/sparkly was not chrome- it is nickel.
  
  Yes, there WERE guns that were taken down local bumper shop, and chromed, but those are the exception. Yes, nickel can be removed by buffing with a fine abrasive, and bead blasting. Do it wrong and you will round over sharp edges, dish out screw holes, and become known as "Bubba".

  Both nickel and chrome were/are used on guns.
