Base screw spacing question

Spacing for a 2 piece mount should be easy. For a 3 hole one piece is a different game. Depends on who did the layout, I always drilled 4 holes with 3 on the proper spacing.

That bolt might not be bent/relieved enough in the right area to clear the tube on low mounts.

Hard to say what the rear bridge contour or actual hole spacing is, it may be correct for the standard Weaver bases for '98's, or it could be for model 70 or something else. Those big ugly mounts were probably for a common rifle, so something else should be able to fit up.

IF they did standard spacing you should need a #45 and #46 weaver base. the spacing on a bunch of weaver bases is the same but the heights vary. when installed on the rifle the bases should be parallel, you can check this with a straight edge.

IF the right Holden mounts were used {model 100} the holes should match
    weavers for the same guns.

    ""This is for Ironsighter Model #100 Holden "See-Thru" Scope Mount for Browning H.P. Bolt (F.N. Action), H & R 300 & 301, HUSQ (F.N. Action), Mauser 98, Mauser F.N., Mauser 3000, and Parker Hale (Late Model 1200)"".

Some HR301's were on sako actions, Don't know if they are the same thing. Holden shows a #103 mount???

Just a suggestion, before you buy new bases, you might want to see if the high see-through mounts were installed to allow operation of the bolt and safety, to clear the scope tube or ocular bell.

I would be sure the scope to be installed will allow the safety to function.

"I would be sure the scope to be installed will allow the safety to function."...............it already has a 'scope' safty (F/N type), you MAY need medium rings to clear the bolt handle tho, depending on the scope.
