Colt Gold Cup N.M. Value

Well, I came across something I never thought I'd see; a totally unfired NIB (really!) Colt Gold Cup N.M. It is not only in the original cardboard box (pristine!) with all the paperwork (minus original sales receipt as this was originally a gift), round multi-head screw driver and allen wrench to adjust trigger, but also in the original postal cardboard shipping box from Colt to Dorrs Sporting Services in Cherokee Iowa! S.N. indicates 1971 production. This is a friend's gun that he got from his father when he turned 16 on the family ranch - what can I say, I've never met a boy (now a 60 year old man) who grew up on a working cattle ranch that couldn't care LESS for guns! He even has the original, full (again pristine) box of Western nickel plated cased 230 FMJ ammo!
So, what is this "package" worth these days? I know a good vintage Gold Cup is around a $1,500 gun, but one with all the "bonafides" of being truly NIB?! No, it's not for sale (yet!) - as it was a gift from his father (now passed) and he has some "guilt" for not showing appreciation for it when dad was alive, but you never know what will happen if the value is what I think it could be.

sound like a great find . My first new 1911 type pistol was a 1971 Series 70 Gold Cup. List price $190.00 I still have it about 500 rounds through it with box ETC Value of one you are looking at [?][?][?][?]In my opinionyou can't get a Factory Colt thay has better quality of material sights and fit & finish 0 -
To the right buyer $2000.00 and up IMHO, I bet if, Locust Fork, one of G/B's premiere sellers on the auction side had it for sale it could do a lot more! 0 -
I remember a gun dealer who was mad at Colt offering me up to a dozen Gold Cup National Match pistols for $150 each. That was in 1968 and I didn't have the money. He sent the whole case of 12 back to Colt. 0 -
I don't recall if Colt was shipping guns in a plastic bag at that time, but ........ you may want to tell him not to keep the gun in the box unprotected. Most cardboard boxes are made of high acid materials that will ruin the finish of a gun if directly touching the box. VPI paper works well.
