Leather Springfield repro 1903 strap
have a beautiful 1903 Remington A1 and bought a Springfield leather shoulder strap. Just doesn't look the era, too new and stiff, etc. Although its a 40 buck part I don't want to learn on the money curve. Anyone know of a way to weather and soften this strap for a better feel and look more the era? thanks

rub pure neatsfoot oil in. that will soften and darken the leather. 0 -
I wouldn't try to weather the new sling. There are plenty of military slings out there that already have age on them. I guess I'd go to a gun show and try to find an older one in good shape. But do your research and put your sling on there in the right way. I don't know how many different wrong ways there are to attach a model 1907 sling to a rifle but I've seen a lot of them! 0 -

You can soften the leather by working it over a board.
