Period Correct 30 WCF Rear Sight
I have what I believe to be a 1916 Winchester Model 1894 based upon the serial number of 826915. Other than that I do not know what specific type it is:
.30 WCF
Curved butt stock with metal plate
20" barrel, muzzle to bolt face
full length magazine
not saddle ring
non enhanced wood
The other question I have is what is the period correct rear sight to match the Marbles Sheard brass/bronze bead blade front sight that is 0.495" tall from top of barrel to top of bead?

They have a number 22 rear sight of which there are six variations. 0 -
When you say No. 22 is that a Winchester number or a Marbles number?
What are the differences between the 6 variations?0 -

Does it have two barrel bands, or a nose-cap on the end of the forend stock?
The serial number does make it a 1916 vintage Model 1894. Without a saddle ring, I would suspect that it is a rifle versus a carbine, but the 20-inch barrel was standard for the carbines.

Bert H - It has a barrel/magazine band just in front of the front sight and has a forend band about 2" back from the end of the wood. There is no end cap on the end of the forend.

Q, it is a carbine. Not a 20" barreled rifle style, and probably had a saddle ring at its conception. This firearm looks to be the standard catalog carbine.
The front sight is probably not original, I don't think the rear is either.
If mine, I would find an original Winchester front sight and a Winchester carbine style rear sight. A matching Marbles rear sight could be found in a 1916 era Marbles catalog, probably Google Images would show a picture of the catalog page, and you could hunt the auctions for the sight.
Rear sight height probably won't be an issue, they probably only came in one height.0 -
MG - If it would have had a SR on it at one time wouldn't it have an extra hole or screw filling an extra hole on the side of the receiver just above and between the lever pivot and the trigger pivot screws? I've seen reference to an "Eastern" carbine, could mine be one of those?
With regard to the front sight, I guess some previous owner could have removed the original blade and installed the Marbles that it has now. What are the period correct part numbers for the front and rear carbine sights?
I'm not trying to do a complete "restoration" as one might for a "collectors" piece, just trying to make a functional firearm that is as period correct as I can so I can experience what it was like "out of the box" as it were. I have a 1899 Springfield 30-40 Krag that I've do this to and enjoy shooting it in its "original" condition. I do get some odd looks from the younger crowd at the range who tend to have AR's and new bolt rifles when I bring it to the range.0 -
Well, if no holes hole for the saddle ring staple stud, then yes, it could have came without one.
I don't know the part numbers.
Still I vote for Winchester sights. I'll look for an auction with the correct sight setup so you can see a picture.

Those are the sights I want, just need to somehow identify them by some kind of number so I can search for the correct ones.0
