Marlin jam
what is the Marlin Jam how do you fix it have a new marlin made by rem. had to return it to the store because it would not cycle shells and kept jamming they exchanged it for a new gun. new ones ok but not smooth working. thanks for any help

You might want to try Stevesgunz. He works on Marlins for the SASS shooters so he might be able to smooth yours up. 0 -
The original "Marlin Jam" happened to vintage Marlins as the parts wore unevenly due to a design flaw. When it occured the lever would lock open all the way and the gun was out of action until you could push the shell waiting to be loaded back into the magazine with a small stick or similar item. The jam was caused by two shells trying to enter the action at the same time. At the factory, they called it "letting in two". The solution is simple; Load one in the chamber first, then load only one round in the magazine tube. That way there is only one shell waiting and you can't have a jam. You can have it fixed but it can occur again if it isn't fixed correctly by a gunsmith familiar with the problem. I don't know what is causing jams on new Marlins, I won't own one of them unless it is JM marked. 0 -
The Marlin Jam I had was when I changed out the plastic follower to and aluminum one. The last aluminum follower would get jammed up with the lifter. I basically let the lifter chew the aluminum up a bit so I knew how much I needed to take off the aluminum follower.
I basically re-profiled the follower and since I had the gun apart I polished up the lifter. That also reminds me I polished the lever where it contacts the inside of the upper frame, too. Anywhere there was a wear I cleaned up the burrs and scratches.0
