I purchased a winchester model 70 with a Lyman Alaskan 2.5 power scope for $100.00 from a former "Tuskeegee Airman" whom I will not name. Upon tracing the serial number through a friend we discovered that it was made in 1947.According to him,"I shot a moose with it in 1955 and it's been in the closet ever since".The rifle has been appraised. Would obtaining a letter or bill of sale with his signature on it increase the value of the rifle? 0 -
Winchester began drilling & tapping the receiver bridge rings in early October 1950, circa serial number 31700A.
The easiest way to determine if a Model 43 was factory drilled & tapped is to look at the front face of the rear receiver frame ring. If it has a milled 45-degree bevel on it, it was not factory drilled & tapped. If the front face frame ring is not beveled, it should have the factory scope mount holes.0 -
Thanks Bert. I figured you would know. 0
