1918 BAR Stock Removal
I have an Ohio Ordnance 1918 BAR and it came with a black "plastic" stock. I want to switch to the walnut stock. I may be remembering incorrectly, just want to check. Is there anything tricky about removing and replacing the stock? From what I've read online unscrewing some nuts & removing a few washers is all that should be needed, I'd just like to make sure. For reason I'm recalling springs and spacers or something more complicated.

All that is required is to remove the butt plate, then you will see a shaft with a screw slot. Removed that and the spring exposed can remain in the recoil buffer assembly. The stock will then slide off and the new stock can be installed. IF THE WOOD FITS RIGHT nothing else is required but to insure the spring is exposed then replace the shaft capturing the spring. Sometimes the shaft is sort of locked on to the buffer and it unscrews from the receiver. You can tell if this is happening as the stock starts getting loose but the shaft is not coming away from the butt stock. Then you will need to hold the buffer and remove the shaft then reinstall the buffer on the receiver. Nothing is spring loaded and likely to "fly" off and get lost. 0
